Monday: Uruguay’s National Football Captain Luis Suárez Announces Retirement from National Team at Press Conference.

It hurts to say it, but Friday will be my last match with my country’s national team. I know it will be difficult for me to reach the next World Cup. Being retired on my own terms and not due to injuries is very comforting,” he said at a press conference at the Centenario Stadium.

Suárez played in four World Cups and five Copa América tournaments. He won the continental tournament in 2011 with his nation.

He retired from football at the age of 37.

He played as a forward for former clubs Liverpool and Barcelona, and also played for Inter Miami, Ajax, Atlético Madrid, and Grêmio.
