A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck Myanmar on the morning of April 13, according to the Meteorological Department.
The quake occurred at 10:24 a.m. Singapore time, with its epicentre located about 271 kilometers northwest of Thailand’s Mae Hong Son province.
The department’s earthquake observation division reported that the tremor originated at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Residents in northern Thailand felt tremors following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on the morning of April 13, according to reports.
People in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai reported light shaking. In Chiang Mai’s Mueang district, residents on the seventh floor of a condominium in Tambon Suthep noticed mild tremors and gently swaying ceiling lamps.
In Chiang Rai’s Mueang district, occupants of the Kemintra boarding house in Tambon Thasud also experienced slight shaking and reported beds trembling during the quake.
Earlier that morning, the Meteorological Department’s earthquake observation division also recorded a separate 1.8-magnitude quake in Tambon Mae Na Toeng, Pai district of Mae Hong Son, at 9:42 a.m.
