The World Nepali Literature Federation’s Taiwan branch hosted a literary event on August 17, 2024, in Taichung, a key industrial city in Taiwan.
At this event, Manoj Kandel, the President of the Taiwan Section sect, served as the chairman, while Mr Migendra Raj Devkota, an advisor of the Taiwan Chapter, conducted the proceedings.
The event was attended by Sudarshan Pandey, Shankar Panthe, Rameshwar Pudasaini, Chet Narayan Gyawali, Rajendra Biskarma, Mrigendra Raj Devkota, Ram Mani Sitaula, and Kapil Adhikari. In Taiwan, where nearly three hundred Nepalis reside, literary events, gatherings, and recitations are held every year.
Last Saturday, the event included readings of stories, poems, free verse, haiku, and ghazals. There was also a discussion on ghazal and haiku writing.
The program addressed the deficiency of adolescent-focused literature in Nepali literature. It was noted that there is a lack of content aimed at the 8-16 age group, which hampers efforts to engage young readers.
The discussion revealed that, unlike international literature, Nepali literature lacks appealing material for teenagers. Participants stressed the importance of incorporating genres like humor, adventure, and comics, as seen in other countries’ literature, to attract younger audiences.
