On Thursday, Due to a lack of budget, the chronic patient encountered issues with the health check-up, as stated by Kamal Acharya, the jailer of Chitwan Prison.

In Chitwan prison, out of 748 prisoners, 124 individuals have chronic issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental health problems, HIV/AIDS, cancer, thyroid issues, hepatitis B, leprosy, and neurological disorders.

The government did not provide a budget for the prisoners; due to poor budget management, the prisoners bear their own treatment costs.

The current budget will only cover treatment at government hospitals, but the prisoners need medical treatment beyond this, so they must bear their own treatment costs.

Jailor Archarya mentioned that in the past fiscal year, we received 13 lakhs rupees from the government for prisoner treatment. However, in the present fiscal year, we have received only 10 lakhs rupees. For cancer patients, this amount is insufficient for their treatment.

In the men’s prison, there is space for only 255 prisoners, but we are currently accommodating 705 prisoners. In the female prison, there is space for only 25 prisoners, but we are currently accommodating 45 prisoners, including 2 girls and 1 boy. RSS.
