On December 2, 2024, at 2:20 AM, a bomb threat was sent via a message from the number 9814347290 to local police offices in Pakali and Itahari. The message stated a bomb was placed in a black bag near the Pan shop under the Bhotepul Bridge and would explode at exactly 2:20 AM. The objective was not to cause harm to people but to destroy the bridge.

In response, Police Superintendent Suman Kumar Timilsina led a team from the District Police Office, Sunsari, to the location. They discovered a suspicious black bag containing a pressure cooker, matchsticks, gunpowder-like material, and wires. The bomb was safely disposed of by a Nepal Army team from the Bhagwati Dal Battalion in Itahari.

Through further investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were hiding in Bhantabari, Ward No. 8, Kosi Rural Municipality. On March 4, 2025, a police team from the Itahari Area Police Office apprehended the individuals.

The arrested suspects are:

  1. Sanjay (Khagendra Kharel), 47, from, Damak Municipality Ward-1, Jhapa District.
  2. Lakshmi Devi Thapa, 36, from, Itahari Sub-Municipality Ward-4, Sunsari District.
